This is sooooo disturbing. I was a follower of HHDL for years... long story.
But when HHDL came out publicly in early 2021 endorsing that “everyone in the world” get the COVID jabs, I was horrified.
All the Buddhist Centers I was familiar with followed suit - which was also horrifying to me - as these special leaders are supposed to have a high level of what the Buddhists call “Discriminating Wisdom”.
I asked myself over and over How could this be?? How could they not SEE the evil. I saw it. I understood it...🤷♀️
This also brings to mind a time maybe 10 or 15 years ago when a beloved and revered Tibetan Buddhist lineage holder and teacher was giving a much anticipated talk in Santa Monica.
He vaguely referenced things at his childhood monastery not being so great.
I asked him to please elucidate. And he responded that there had been rampant sexual abuse by the monks in charge of the young boys.
As I recall, some people were so shocked that they walked out. Others were angry w me for my question which elicited his response.
Apparently everyone would have preferred he not mention the dark truth.
Wow. Just wow. Thich Nhat Hanh zen master, encouraged socially engaged Buddhism while living through the Vietnam War where he acted as an organizer and activist as well.
